What is Recount Text?

Hi sahabat Bersama Aafiyah, today we are going to learn about recount text. What is recount text? Recount text is a text that retells an incident or events that occurred in the past. The examples of recount text include vacations, competitions, birthdays, and attending concerts. Typically, recount text describes events that occurred several weeks, months, or years ago. Recount text's objective is to inform, motivate, and entertain the reader or listener about a specific incident or event. Of course, given its aim, this material is more informal.

Same like other text, recount text also has a structure such like:

1. Orientation (This section contains the background of an incident or incident, including who was involved, when or where the incident occurred. By writing this at the beginning of the story, readers will easily understand the storyline)

2. Series of Event (This second structure is a series of events from a story. Apart from that, usually in the series of events section the author will tell all the events he experienced in sequence. For example, if you want to tell about the basketball match you took part in yesterday, then in this section you will explain from the beginning of the preparation for the match until the end of the match or the announcement of the winner)

3. Reorientation (The last part of the recount text is reorientation or can be called the closing of the text. In this section, the author will write a conclusion or summary of the entire story, as well as the ending of the story (happy/sad ending). Not only that, sometimes writers can also add impressions and messages for their readers)

The characteristics of recount text are:

1. Only contains short stories about experiences. There is no conflict created by the author.

2. There is always an order to the story, for example on the first day, the second day, and so on.

3. Use past tense sentences (Verb 3: went, woke up, ate, etc).

4. Contains a part of speech adverb to describe an event's time, place, or manner. For example, last January, Jakarta, at the stadium, or on the second day.

5. There are part of speech conjunctions and time connections to order events in the story to make it clearer. For example and, after, the, that, before, and so on.

        Example of recount text:

Bandung as Sea of Fire was a fire that happened on March 24, 1946 in the city of Bandung. Within seven hours, about 200,000 Bandung residents had set fire to their homes.

On October 12, 1945, British troops from the Brigade MacDonald arrived in Bandung. TRI and locals set fire to Bandung on purpose. Black smoke billowed high into the air everywhere. The British Army launched an all-out assault. The most significant combat took place in the village of Dayeuh Kolot in South Bandung, where the British had a big munitions storage. Barisan Rakyat Indonesia destroyed the ammo stockpile during this conflict.
